Parents: Get Involved with Career Planning at Shawe!

At Shawe, your child has taken the first step in the career planning process by getting started with Kuder Navigator, and you can play an important role as they start their career journey. Kuder Navigator  and the Indiana Career Explorer program offered by the Indiana Department of Education features interactive and reliable tools to make career planning fun, engaging, and relevant for today's middle school and high school students. Guided by a Career Planning Timeline, Navigator helps students learn about themselves with research-based assessments, build an education plan, and explore and prepare for various options after high school. At Shawe Memorial, there is a comprehensive set of activities done by the Guidance Department to help students gather career information and to make better decisions for their future postsecondary education.

Tips for Parents

Learn About Kuder Navigator!

• Allows access from any Internet connection location, 24 hours a day (at home, public library, etc).

• Relates the results of brief interests, skills, and work values assessments to occupational information.

• Provides lifelong access to an online career portfolio.

• Allows students to search and compare college and career options, create a four-year education scholarships and financial aid information, and build professional resumes.

• Helps your child select courses, college majors, and occupations based on assessment results.

 

Get Involved!

• Create your free Kuder Navigator parent account at www.kudernavigator.com in order to access additional resources and review your child's portfolio.  You may also use the Indiana Career Explorer website to access career information at www.indianacareerexplorer.org

• Encourage your child to show you their assessment reports on the Internet and   review the results together.

• Talk about your own career, past jobs, and future goals.

• Discuss the strengths your child sees in her/his own work.

• Encourage your child to get involved in extracurricular activities.
