Be a Hilltopper For A Day

Any students interested in attending Pope John XXIII Elementary or Shawe Memorial Jr./Sr. High School has the opportunity to visit for a day of shadowing classes with one of our students. This is an excellent opportunity for a prospective student to experience a day in the life of Pope John or Shawe while spending the day with a current student.

Parents, please contact President Phil Kahn at 812-273-5835 ext. 245 or [email protected] to schedule a shadow day, at least one week in advance of your potential shadow date. Shadowing takes place on any school day as long as it is scheduled a few days in advance. We do not try to schedule Shadow days during a state testing week.  Our visiting students will preferably spend an entire school day and be hosted by a student from the same grade level whose areas of academic abilities and interests will be compatible with the visiting student.

Visitors are asked to park in the visitor parking spots or in front of either school. Please arrive by 8:00 a.m. and enter the school at the Main Entrance. Visiting students will complete their day at 3:00 p.m. at Pope John XXIII and 3:30 pm at Shawe Memorial. Please feel free to park and come inside to meet your child and one of our Staff members will meet you in the lobby.

Shadow students should wear khaki or navy pants, and a shirt that is suitable for school. Proper length shorts permitted and proper jeans are allowed at Pope John, but not Shawe. Comfortable foot wear is recommended. Students may bring their lunch or eat in our cafeteria.

We look forward to having your student visit Shawe Memorial and Pope John XXIII and spend the day as a Topper!

Family Tours are Available

Please feel free to set up a tour for you and your family members that would like to visit our campus.  We highly recommend coming for a tour during the school day if possible so that you can see our great school environment in action.

Tours can be set up by contacting President Phil Kahn ’87 at 812-273-5835  ext. 245 or [email protected]. The schools are more than happy to set up a time that is convenient for you and your family. We will do tours during the day, in the evening or on the weekends depending on your schedule. Students are more than welcome to join us on the tours and we leave that decision up to the families depending on the age and situation of the student. We can also overlap a parent tour with a shadow day for the student when coordinated ahead of time.

Tours are very informative and we will be glad to answer any questions that you may have in regards to a student’s typical day, academics, financial information, etc.
