Orton Gillingham Phonics –Orton-Gillingham is a structured, multisensory approach to teaching phonics and literacy. This method focuses on the systematic and explicit teaching of phonetic elements, such as letter sounds and decoding strategies. It incorporates multisensory techniques, involving auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning to enhance understanding and retention.
Heggerty Phonics –Heggerty Phonemic Awareness is a structured and systematic phonics program designed to develop phonemic awareness skills. The program focuses on teaching children to recognize and manipulate the individual sounds, or phonemes, in spoken language. Heggerty Phonics incorporates daily, short lessons that involve activities like rhyming, blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds in words. The goal is to build a strong foundation for reading and spelling by enhancing students’ ability to understand and work with the sounds of the English language at the phonemic level.
Storyworks and Storyworks Jr. -Storyworks is designed to enhance reading and literacy skills in students. It primarily focuses on providing engaging fiction and nonfiction texts for students in grades 2-5. The content includes a mix of articles, stories, plays, and other literary works that are carefully selected to align with curriculum standards. Storyworks promotes reading comprehension, critical thinking, and language development by offering thought-provoking and diverse texts.
Scholastic Scope-Scholastic Scope is an educational magazine for our 6th grade students. It provides a variety of engaging and relevant nonfiction and fiction texts to support English language arts instruction. The content includes articles, short stories, and plays that cover a range of genres and topics, designed to align our curriculum standards. Scholastic Scope aims to enhance students’ reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills by offering thought-provoking and diverse literary works.
Etymology/Greek and Latin Roots – Instead of rote memorization of spelling words, Pope John uses etymology in our curriculum to teach students the origins and roots of words as a strategy for understanding spelling patterns, meanings, and relationships between words. This approach can enhance spelling skills by helping students recognize and apply spelling rules, prefixes, suffixes, and root words. It also promotes vocabulary development as students gain insights into the meanings of words based on their components. By understanding etymology, students are better equipped to decode unfamiliar words, predict spellings, and expand their overall language proficiency.
Ready Math– Ready Math is a comprehensive curriculum that is aligned to the Indiana academic standards. It provides differentiated instruction and tools to support both struggling learners and those who need additional challenges. Ready Math includes assessment tools that help teachers track student progress and identify areas that may need additional support. The summative assessments are given at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Teachers use the assessments to help guide instructional decisions. Ready Math provides teachers with valuable data on student performance, enabling data-driven decision-making to enhance instructional strategies.
Generation Genius– Generation Genius provides science curriculum and resources for elementary school students. The platform is designed to make science learning engaging and interactive through the use of video lessons, activities, and assessments.
Scholastic News– Scholastic News is a publication by Scholastic Inc. that provides age-appropriate news and current events content for students in elementary and middle schools. It aims to engage young readers with informative articles, features, and activities, covering a wide range of topics from science and history. Scholastic News is designed to promote literacy, critical thinking, and an understanding of the world for students in an educational and engaging manner.
Handwriting– Writing Our Catholic Faith by Universal Publishing Handwriting is used by grades K-4. Cursive handwriting instruction begins in second grade. Our Catholic-based handwriting reinforces grade-level Catholic curriculum standards.
Religion– Our curriculum Finding God: Our Response to God’s Gifts covers the teachings of the Catholic Church and our Catholic curriculum standards. It is rooted in Scripture, Church Tradition, and spirituality, Finding God: Our Response to God’s Gifts focuses on a life of intentional discipleship. This faith formation program for Kindergarten through Grade 6 helps foster a relationship with God through Jesus. The curriculum includes Scripture, practice prayer and reflection, and how to find God in all things. We also use Friendzy to teach social and emotional learning through scripture and our faith.
