Students earn fine arts/ elective credit through taking the theatre class at Shawe. It is a semester class which is offered to students grades seven through twelve. The main objective of the class each semester is to prepare to students to perform in a either the fall play or spring musical. Students must audition for the play; however, they are required to participate in the play either as an actor or backstage crew. Approximately two months out of each semester is dedicated to the production of the play/musical. Aside from the play production, students are involved in many acting/performing activities throughout the semester. Hopefully, the experience in drama class will help all students become better speakers, performers, and more confident young people in general.

In previous years, the Shawe theatre program has performed “Arsenic and Old Lace”, “Pippin,” and “The Canterville Ghost”.
